We are living proof that organ and tissue donation saves and enhances lives
The Scarborough Gift of Life Association (SGLA) formed in September 2012 to work in partnership with Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN), focusing on organ and tissue donation awareness for Scarborough residents. TGLN is Ontario’s central organ and tissue donation and transplant agency. For more information on their role, visit www.giftoflife.on.ca/en/about/
Each one of our SGLA members and volunteers live in Scarborough and has personal experience with or interest in organ and tissue donation. Members are donors and recipients, their families, neighbours, advocates, friends, partners and supporters.
More than 1,600 people are waiting for a life-saving organ and tissue transplant in Ontario. One person on this list dies every three days because there simply are not enough organs to meet the need.
Ontario’s organ and tissue donation registration rate is 28%. Unfortunately Scarborough’s rate is even lower – 13% as of March 2016. Thanks to the hard work of the SGLA volunteers, this number is on the rise, but there’s still a long way to go.
Through meaningful community outreach in Scarborough, partnerships, educational and promotional events, public speaking and local initiatives, we’re working to increase registration rates while inspiring people with our stories.
Register Today We ask that every eligible person in Scarborough register consent to be an organ and tissue donor and discuss that choice with your family. Please talk to your family and friends and ask them to register today at beadonor.ca |
